11. Noise
Noises
Quantum Series A-G approximate sound level with fan running is around 20dB across the range.
10.1. A repetitive ticking noise
A repetitive ticking noise could be a few things.
Fast ticking noises - ticking quicker than a car indicator for example, are likely to be fan noises, rectified by replacing the fan if within warranty. The fan is designed to very quiet in use and should barely be audible if at all. Noise depends on model but listed as 32dB max.
Slow ticking noises, every second or less, then it is likely the noise is metal expansion and contraction sounds as the heater heats up or cools down. This is normal. The installer can double check how tight they mounted the heater to the wall and that they have secured the inner core cover securely. If the wall is not flat, it may worsen the ticking effect as the heater chassis may be bent to fit the wall.
Where a customer has a noise complaint, can they record the noise and email the clip for us to assess?
Please don’t ask the customer to hold the phone to the heater whilst on a call to us as most phones use “noise cancelling” to only transmit speech whilst on a telephone call!
An engineers visit may be appropriate if the noise is excessive. If an engineer is attending for a noise issue, please ask the customer to switch both supplies to the heater OFF for at least 48 hours prior to the visit to allow the engineer to work on the heater!
10.2. An occasional quiet metallic "clonk
An occasional quiet metallic "clonk
An occasional quiet metallic "clonk" can sometimes be heard when the air mixer flap closes.
This is normal.
It is not a repetitive noise, and would only happen every now and then when the heater is regulating the airflow from the heater core.
10.3. Buzzing noises
Buzzing noises
Buzzing noises may occur from either elements if they are not sat firmly between the bricks, or in rarer cases, from the cut out assembly or the fan. A slight buzz is normal - many high current mains appliances will have a 50hz buzz to them. If the customer believes the noise to be excessive and the product is in warranty, it may require an engineer to investigate further.

10.4. Other Noises
Quantum is designed to be very quiet in operation. That said, it can on occasion make some small noises.
As the noise is not a clicking, buzzing or occasional clonk, it may be difficult to describe.

Please don’t ask the customer to hold the phone to the heater whilst on a call to us as most phones use “noise cancelling” to only transmit speech whilst on a telephone call! The video / sound recording option on a phone is better at picking up appliance noises.
